Gonzalo Fernández Castaño (+3) did not make the cut in the NBO Oman Open after shooting a 74 in the second round. The golfer from Madrid still had a chance at playing over the weekend up to the 18th hole at the Al Mouj Golf (Muscat, Oman), but he needed a birdie and ended up with a double bogey.
The Spanish golfer only made four birdies in 36 holes, and the putter wasn’t exactly his biggest ally this week, as he accumulated a total of 34 putts on Thursday in a round in which he caught more than eighty percent of the regulation greens (15/18), and 31 putts on Friday. One of the indicative statistics: on the eight par 5s he played, he only made one birdie.
Gonzalo will play next week in Qatar, at the Doha Golf Club, a setting with which Gonzalo is quite familiar, seeing as how he he’s played in eight separate editions of this tournament, the last of which was in 2013, before embarking on his American adventure.
