Gonzalo Fernández Castaño (+1) did not get off to a great start in the NBO Oman Open after shooting a 73 in the first round, which currently puts him in 77th place, temporarily outside the cut line to be established on Friday.
The golfer from Madrid started off a bit cold on the 10th tee at Al Mouj Golf (Muscat, Oman), without having been able to take advantage of opportunities and having made a few errors, which quickly positioned him over par. In the second half of the round he responded well, and managed to even out the match, but finished with a bogey on the 9th, one of the most difficult holes on the course.
His situation, however, is not in imminent danger, as he is just one shot from the cut and has more than enough time and room to work with to improve his status. But he can’t lose sight of the game either, there is a high ratio of birdies, seeing as how the wind has not kicked up at all, nor is it expected to in the following rounds.
Gonzalo will play on Friday in the morning session (5:05 Spanish time) and is eight shots away from the leaders, British golfers Southgate and Waring.
