Gonzalo Fernández Castaño (-6) has managed to keep the goal of having an interesting week in the Club Colombia Championship in tact after shooting another 68 in the second round. A score that has allowed him to move up in the rankings, enter the top ten and to position himself at three shots from the leader, British golfer Ben Taylor (-9), and just one away from second place.
Birdies aren’t up for grabs in abundance at the Bogotá Country Club, a course where it’s very complicated to acclimate from one day to the next due to the altitude (it’s played at more than two thousand meters above sea level) and the tough imbalance brought on by controlling the distances.
However, The golfer from Madrid found two different ways to win the course over in the first two rounds. In the first round, he couldn’t quite manage to get past the par 5s on the Colombian course, and in the second round the opposite happened, with a total of three birdies on the long holes, which is how he got his good score.
But it’s just an interesting fact, because in the end the most important part is to make as few shots as possible, no matter what hole it is, and that’s usually obtained by playing an organized and solid game, which is what the Spanish golfer has proven he’s capable of this season.
