Gonzalo Fernández Castaño

  • Florida Swing

Hi everyone! First two weeks of the Florida Swing, and it's time for an assessment. The Honda Classic was the first stop of the PGA Tour in the “Sunshine State”(as they call it here in Florida), my new place of residence according to my driver's license.

  • Foundation

A few years ago, Gonzalo Fernández-Castaño launched a social initiative that consists of actively helping human development for those in need, without asking anything in return, by way of sports, specifically golf.

In order to shape and give life to the foundation, Gonzalo officially registered the Gonzalo Fernández-Castaño Foundation in January, 2010.

That same year at the Madrid Masters, the foundation began its initiative, donating half of the total profits from the tickets to the Missionaries of Charity, a Catholic religious congregation established in 1950 by Mother Theresa to help those less fortunate. And during the week of the tournament, a clinic was held for children with Down Syndrome, allowing them to participate in a great sports event where they demonstrated their strong will and desire to overcome the disorder, integrating into society thanks to practicing the sport of golf.

After struggling with his back injury in 2011, Gonzalo decided to get involved with the promotion and development of Aponeurologic Surgery, a non-invasive medical procedure with the objective of restoring the biochemical and functional equilibrium of the body through connective tissue treatment. This pioneer technique in Spain, practiced in the Leonor Sacristán Medical Center in Madrid, was where he was able to overcome his injury and go back to competing as he did before. Connective Tissue Therapy is proven to be very effective in the treatment of sports injuries such as muscle tears, ligaments that don't scar correctly and spinal conditions that results in a much faster recovery time.

There is currently a line of study and treatment dedicated to degenerative and neurological damage with high recovery expectations, which the GFC Foundation will actively support to help in its promotion and development.
