Gonzalo Fernández-Castaño (-7) finished another round with three under par in the Final of the European Tour Qualifying School. Great performance by the Spanish golfer in one of the key rounds this week, the fourth, the day the cut is established with the top 70 and ties who will continue to play 36 more holes, and where it pays off to be higher up in the rankings to earn the European Tour card.
Gonzalo’s evolution in this long Final at Lumine seems to be perfect. Just after the fourth round, he’s positioned in the top 25, which you already one, will be those who will be granted the European Tour card after the sixth round on Thursday.
Fernández Castaño made six birdies, the highest stats throughout all four days, one bogey and one double bogey. The big slip-up came on the 13th hole, but he responded quite well, with two consecutive birdies on the 16th and 17th holes.
It’s not easy to calculate, as it depends on the conditions of play in the next couple days in Tarragona, but it seems as though a score of nine under par should be enough to obtain the European Tour card.
