Things got complicated fast for Gonzalo Fernández Castaño (+4) after shooting a 74 in the first round of the DAP Championship, third tournament of the four that make up the Web.com Finals. The Spanish golfer, currently at ten shots away from the leaders (American golfers Nicholas Lindheim and Matt Atkins), will need an extraordinary second round to secure his presence over the weekend, and thus, to accumulate points and keep the PGA Tour 2017-18 goal alive.
He started out on the 10th hole at the Canterbury Golf Club (Beachwood, Ohio), with a lack of control of his game and the round (five bogeys and two birdies on the first nine), too inconsistent with his long game, and more specifically with some shots from the fairway. He gathered his composure somewhat afterwards and attempted to create opportunities, but was unable to convert any other birdies.
Gonzalo will play this Friday in the first game of the day, at 7:30 in the morning (1:30 pm Spanish time).
