Gonzalo Fernández Castaño will compete in the DAP Championship this Thursday, third tournament of the Web.com Tour finals where, as many already know, he’s fighting to win the rights to play in the PGA Tour for the 2017-18 season. The Madrid native will go into it in 51st place on the winnings list of the finals, and he needs to be within the top 25 when all four tournaments have finished.
He’s running out of ammunition, but at the end of the day, the Spanish golfer’s main goal hasn’t changed, which is to make it to the top 5 in one of the tournaments, results that would practically secure his spot among the top 25. From there, evidently, anything that leads to accumulating points is good: he’s currently just shy of thirteen thousand dollars from 25th place.
The Canterbury Golf Club (Beachwood, Ohio), which will be hosting the tournament, is a par 70, a favorable setting for Gonzalo. In fact, last year he finished in 16th place. He’ll play this Thursday starting at 12:20 with Jonathan Byrd and Scott Gutschewski (at 6:20 pm, Spanish time).
