Gonzalo Fernández-Castaño fought hard, up until the bitter end, to make it through to the weekend in the Albertsons Boise Open, but he fell short. The Madrid native shot PAR in the second round of the second stop of the Web.com Tour Finals, and ended up just one shot away from being able to play over the weekend.
Gonzalo notably improved his performance on shots to green. In fact, he went from catching ten greens on Thursday up to fourteen on Friday, good stats, but he wasn’t able to capitalize on them one hundred percent. He made three bogeys and three birdies, two of which were on the 15th and 16th holes, knee-deep in the fight to save the day to earn a spot for the weekend, although in the end he wasn’t able to swing it.
This means Gonzalo will move down in the Web.com Tour Final rankings, but it won’t be anything extreme. The current situation after Idaho is that he is now in 32nd place in the rankings. Keep in mind, it’s the top 25 who will earn the card after the four tournaments are over.
The third stop of the Finals will be in Ohio again, the DAP Championship. Another opportunity to move forward in Gonzalo’s mission to get the PGA Tour card back. A top 5 in either of the two tournaments would be sufficient to reach the goal.
