Gonzalo Fernández-Castaño continues to hold his ground in the Nationwide Children’s Hospital Championship, first stop of the Web.com Tour Finals in Ohio. The Spanish golfer shot a fantastic 68 yesterday, with five birdies and two bogeys, and is currently in thirteenth place, just one shot away from the top ten and four from fourth place, a goal which would almost definitely mean the rights to earn the PGA Tour card back.
Gonzalo got the good vibes flowing again yesterday with the putter. Although he wasn’t as solid from tee to green as on Thursday or Friday, he took full advantage of his opportunities, which allowed him to move up in the rankings with the tenth best card of the day on the Scarlet Course at Ohio State University.
The Madrid native has created a good opportunity to practically secure the PGA Tour card for next season. A top 5 would mean he has it practically in the bag. Whatever happens, with Sunday still ahead, Gonzalo has most definitely got off to a great start in the Web.com Tour Finals.
Today, Sunday, he’ll play in the last round with Jonathan Hodge starting at 11:55 am, local time, six hours later in Spain.
