Gonzalo Fernández-Castaño will compete at the Wells Fargo Championship, a PGA Tour date held every year since 2003 on the Quail Hollow Course in Charlotte. Golfers come face to face with the Green Mile, which actually has nothing to do with the Tom Hanks movie, although just the name in itself invokes fear in all the players that set foot there.
The Green Mile at Quail Hollow makes up the last three holes of the course in North Carolina, infamous for its extremely difficult conditions. It's one of the most complicated sequences of the season in the PGA Tour, especially holes 16 and 18.
Gonzalo will face the Green Mile for the first time this Thursday, and on top of that, he'll be the first to officially get a taste of it this week. The Madrid native will come out in the first game of the day (1pm Spanish time) from the tee on the 10th hole. Just like that, no anesthesia, nothing to numb the pain. He'll be accompanied by American golfers, Brian Stuard and James Hahn.
The weather could be an important factor throughout the first couple days. It rained heavily on Tuesday night and Wednesday morning to set the stage for the Wells Fargo tournament, which means, at least on Thursday and Friday, that the course will be slower and somewhat more receptive than usual.
A big part of the best players in the world will participate in this tournament. Among them, Phil Mickelson, Rory McIlroy, Justin Rose, Zach Johnson, Webb Simpson, Rickie Fowler, Jonas Blixt, Ernie Els and Lee Westwood.
