This Thursday marks the beginning of the Web.com Tour Finals, or as Gonzalo Fernández-Castaño likes to say, the mulligan of the season. It’s another opportunity to maintain the PGA Tour card, after a year in which things did not go so well, with Gonzalo having to make changes to his swing along the way, at the very least, to go into the Finals in the best shape possible.
The first tournament of the four that make up this series of ‘do-overs’ is the Nationwide Children’s Hospital Championship, held in Columbus on the Ohio State University course, of which Gonzalo is quite fond.
The goal in these four tournaments ahead is to make it among the top 25 in the order of merit, those who will earn the rights to the PGA Tour card, together with the top 25 from the regular Web season, those who already have it in the bag.
Keep in mind that Gonzalo isn’t new to this game. It’s the third time that he’s played in these Finals, and he’s got good recent memories of having earned back the card last year through the same path, so there are good vibes going into it.
