Gonzalo Fernández Castaño will play in the Greenbrier Classic starting Thursday, PGA Tour tournament held on the Old White course in West Virginia. The Madrid native is back in action after a week's break and after having put in long hours of practice with José Carlos Gutiérrez. The goal is to get the good vibes back from before.
The first test after a job well done this week, at a site where history dictates that a low score is in order to make it high up in the rankings. That's Gonzalo's mission this week, he’s prepared to go into battle.
A good performance in the Greenbrier will not only allow Gonzalo to move up in the FedEX Cup, and thus to get closer to making it into the top 125 who will be granted the golden ticket at the end of the year, but could also earn him a spot in the British Open at Royal Birkdale.
The top four of the tournament who finished in the top 12 will qualify for the Open, who are not qualified for the third Major of the season for some other reason.
Gonzalo will play in the first round with Tim Wilkinson and Blayne Barber starting this Thursday at 1:20 pm local time, six hours later in Spain.
