Gonzalo Fernández Castaño (+4) didn’t get off to an ideal start at the AT&T Byron Nelson, PGA Tour tournament held on TPC Four Seasons course. He didn’t have much luck with the tee time either, a big factor in golf tournaments. Gonzalo started in the afternoon, right when the wind was blowing the strongest. So much so that the difference in the average score between the morning and afternoon was almost two shots, a significant amount.
Gonzalo struggled, mostly from tee to green, but he was able to pull through enough to finish with two birdies on the last four holes. A solid response, which opened up the possibility of making the cut today. He needs to continue to fight and to have a good round, but he’s not that far off either.
If the forecast isn’t wrong, there will be good playing conditions in the morning, the ideal scenario for a comeback and to make up for lost ground. Gonzalo is three shots from the provisional cut, although it will most likely be established at +2 or even +3. It all depends on how the wind blows, logically.
Gonzalo will play in the second round starting at 3:10 pm, Spanish time.
