Gonzalo Fernández Castaño (PAR) shot a 75 in the last round of the Wells Fargo Championship, finishing in 42º place after a tough day of golf in which the score doesn’t do his game justice.
Gonzalo made four bogeys and just one birdie, not the best reflection of the caliber of his game, mainly because the putt went cold for the entire round. His game from tee to green was even more solid than the three previous days, but he wasn’t able to follow through on the opportunities he created, and there were quite a few.
He lost quite a bit of ground on Sunday, but his overall morale is good. His game is solid right now and the goal is to ride that wave and take advantage to the fullest. He’s made the last three cuts and he’s been among the best in several rounds now. Gonzalo is rising to the occasion in a key moment in the season, right when it’s most important to put the pressure on in order to secure the PGA Tour card. He’s still far from 125º place in the FedEX Cup, but there’s more of a distance statistically than in quality of play.
