Gonzalo Fernández Castaño (+3) did not get off to an ideal start in the Wells Fargo Championship, PGA Tour tournament held at the Eagle Point Golf Club in North Carolina. It was a tough day at the office, a struggle with little to write home about. He made 15 pars and three bogeys. One of those rounds in which nothing seems to go right.
Gonzalo started off with a good option for birdie on the 10th hole from three meters away, but it was an all uphill battle from there. Except for a brilliant par on the 11th hole (putt from two meters away) and he wasn’t even able to create the option for a birdie. The most apparent option came on the 6th hole, when he let a putt escape out from under his fingertips from two meters away for birdie.
A day to forget, when nothing goes right, nothing more than the constant battle to stay afloat and to leave room to make the cut on Friday. He caught six fairways and ten greens. A tough battle to fight. And the putt, which has been one of his strong points this season, helped him come up for air. He wasn’t able to work his way back into the round.
Gonzalo will need a big round today to be able to make the cut. He’s currently situated at par and that’s right at where the cut will be established, possibly +1 by the time the round ends. His goal is to play under par. Today he’ll play in the first game of the day, starting at 12:50, Spanish time.
