Gonzalo Fernández Castaño will play in the Zurich Classic pairs tournament, an interesting format which hasn’t really been a part of the PGA Tour since 1981, with American golfer Martin Flores. Eighty pairs will be competing to start off (the top 35 as well as ties will make the cut after the first two rounds) foursome style (alternate shots) on Thursday and Saturday, and fourball on Friday and Sunday.
The tournament has all the most appealing incentives to the Spanish golfer because it maintains all of the same advantages as the individual tournaments: both golfers of the winning pair will earn the rights to play in the PGA Tour for two more years and will accumulate 400 points each for the FedEX Cup.
A great opportunity, although the competition is pretty fierce. There are power pairs in the lineup such as Justin Rose and Henrik Stenson, Rickie Fowler and Jason Day, Jordan Spieth and Ryan Palmer, South African golfers Oosthuizen and Grace and Daniel Berger and Thomas Pieters, to name a few.
Fernández Castaño and Flores will play in the first game of the day at TPC Louisiana (Avondale), where the tournament will be held, starting at eight in the morning (3 pm Spanish time), with the American golf duo, Spencer Levin and Rocco Mediate.
