Gonzalo Fernández Castaño (+1) shot a 73 in the Valero Texas Open on the Oaks Course in San Antonio. He’s currently not within the cut, provisionally set at par, which means he’ll have to make up for lost ground in the second round in order to play this weekend. It’s an abrupt start, although when taking his stats from tee to green into consideration, it’s safe to say he saved the day.
Gonzalo made two birdies and just three bogeys, despite the fact that he only caught five fairways and nine greens in 18 holes. In other words, he made the recovery on six out of the nine greens he missed, incredible results which speak volumes about the extraordinary strength, solidity and finesse in his short game.
The Spanish golfer will be on the attack today. It seems as though he’ll have to shoot under par to make the cut, because if the conditions don’t change much, the most probable outcome is that the cut will be set at -1. He’ll play today at 8:30 pm, Spanish time.
