Gonzalo Fernández Castaño will start his participation in the Valero Texas Open this Thursday, PGA Tour tournament held at the Oaks Course at TPC San Antonio.
The Spanish golfer is back to competing after almost one month without tournaments because of the schedule and the conditions of his PGA Tour card. But he’s more than ready and willing.
During this time, since he wouldn’t have it any other way, Gonzalo has been working day in and day out with his entire team, including José Carlos Gutiérrez, who went all the way to Florida to help polish off his game. Now, it’s time to put it to the test in competition.
Gonzalo will play starting at 3:30 pm, Spanish time, with Kevin Chappell and Korean golfer Sung Kang. The goal is to finish as high up as possible in order to move up in the FedEX Cup. The Spaniard needs a good push in the right direction to position himself better as far as the next re-rankings and, most of all, to continue to move up in the general rankings, going toward his objective of securing the card for next year.
The start of the season hasn’t been great, but the reality is that there is still room to work with. Gonzalo hasn’t traditionally been good with Valero Texas, although it’s never too late to change the dynamic.
