Gonzalo Fernández Castaño (-4) fell quite far back from the top of the pack in the Puerto Rico Open after an unfortunate third round at the Coco Beach Golf & Country Club (Río Grande, Puerto Rico) in which he shot a 73 after making 17 pars and one bogey.
One of the leading causes of the Spanish golfer’s exasperating round were the shots to green. In fact, Fernández-Castaño’s game off the tee was fairly stable, but when it came time to aim for the flag, he just couldn’t manage, throughout practically the entire round, to hit the ball close to the hole.
The tournament leader, Chris Stroud (-15), is now eleven shots away, which means that there is essentially no chance to take home the win for the Gonzalo, who in any event did make the second cut on Saturday and can still attempt to move up in the rankings in the next round on Sunday.
