Gonzalo Fernández Castaño (-5) shot a 69 in the second round of the Puerto Rico Open, completed on Saturday morning due to delays caused by an electric storm the day before. The Madrid native, who was able to finish his round on Friday after the long break, did more than just make the cut, he did it with conviction, bogey-free, which allowed him to move up a handful of positions in the rankings, which means he can contemplate the comeback this weekend.
Fernández Castaño, who didn’t make the cut in the last two tournaments he played in the PGA Tour, is now six shots away from the three leaders (Bryson DeChambeau, D.A. Points and Bill Lunde), although his objective is also to reach at least the top ten to substantially improve his FedEx Cup ranking and, thus, his options to play in other tournaments.
The Spanish golfer’s game, spectacular at times on the second shots, was also solid on the greens, for good results within very tight rankings, in which there are still a lot of options open.
