Gonzalo Fernández Castaño (-2) finished the first round this Friday in the Puerto Rico Open, after the suspension of play on Thursday due to an electric storm. The Spanish golfer shot a bogey on the 9th hole, the last one left to play, for a final score of 70 shots which, at the moment, places him just inside the cut line and seven shots from the leader, American golfer Trey Mullinax.
Despite the error in the end, the truth is that Fernández Castaño had his game under control at all times, with good stats off the tee and also from the fairway, taking advantage of the par 5s at Coco Beach Golf & Country Club (Río Grande, Puerto Rico), on which he made a total of three birdies. However, he lost ground once again with the putter in hand.
There’s a good flow of birdies going on the Puerto Rican course, which is why a big second round will be necessary for the Spaniard in order for a real opportunity to reach the top this weekend.
