Gonzalo Fernández-Castaño missed the cut in the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro Am after turning in a card for PAR in the last round. The Madrid native played on the Spyglass course, needing a low score in order to make the cut. It was a valiant effort and he fought to the bitter end, but a double bogey on the 8th hole, his second-to-last hole of the day, made it mathematically impossible.
Gonzalo finished the tournament with a total of +4. He got unlucky with the course rotations that he was dealt. It’s apparent just by looking at the rankings. Only 17 out of the fifty golfers who had that sequence (Pebble Beach, Monterey and Spyglass) managed to make the cut, and none of them were in the top ten. Gonzalo played very well from tee to green on such a tough course as Spyglass, but the putt wasn’t as accurate as he needed. He caught 14 greens, but got almost two putts for each regulation green. Difficult to cut back on shots, like he needed this Saturday, without being on point around the hole.
