Gonzalo Fernández-Castaño (+2) was not able to finish his first round this Thursday in the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro Am. The bad weather came over the course just as the forecast had predicted, with lots of wind and lots of water, and the game was suspended when the Madrid native still had three holes to go at Pebble Beach.
The truth is that the conditions got worse on the last stretch of the round. Proof are the bogey and double bogey Gonzalo made just before the horn went off. The wind starting blowing really hard and the rain was coming down almost sideways. Controlling the ball was almost impossible and the Spanish golfer ended up making errors. The double bogey was especially painful on the 6th hole, victim of four putts.
Be that as it may, the reality is that up until then Gonzalo was completely dominating in his round, with hands of steel. He got to the 5th hole, thirteenth of the day with a great partial score of one under par, having avoided most of the trouble along the way.
The good news is that today he’ll finish the round in much better weather conditions and that he’ll play on the Monterey Peninsula and Spyglass courses in good conditions as well. At least that’s what the forecast says.
