Gonzalo Fernández Castaño (-2) started the Farmers Insurance Open off with a good round of 70 shots on the North Course at Torrey Pines. This is the simpler course of the two that will played in this tournament, however a card under par is no free hand out. Additionally, this was the Spanish golfer’s best score yet at Torrey Pines, where he had not managed to shoot below a 72 previously in his last two appearances.
Throughout the better part of the round, the Madrid native was at the top of the pack, mostly after the start on the 10th hole with two birdies and, later, he finished the first half with a partial of four under par. From there, Gonzalo had a few slip-ups, the majority off the tee, although he managed to finish with a good score.
Today he’ll play on the South course, undeniably the more difficult of the two, with the objective of making the cut, which is currently situated at -1. The sole leader after the first round is British golfer, Justin Rose (-7) and Fernándo Castaño will play today starting at 10:20 am in San Diego (7:20 pm Spanish time).
