Gonzalo Fernández-Castaño (PAR) had already put in the hard work in the first round of the Career Builder Challenge in the PGA Tour. After a great start with two birdies on the first four holes he slipped up with a double bogey and consecutive bogeys on the sixth and seventh holes.
It’s not easy to come back from a blunder of this caliber, but he answered back majestically. The Spanish golfer made four birdies on the next six holes and started to climb his way to the top of the rankings. His putter was on fire. On the 13th, to close the sequence of four birdies, he sank a putt from seven meters out.
Gonzalo positioned himself at -3, looking up, but an ‘accident’ on the 17th hole caused him to come to a screeching halt. He caught the green on this par 3, but he took five putts to finish the hole. Painfull. Precisely the club that had been performing the best today.
Thus, he shot a 72 on TPC Stadium Course, in 105th place. He’s provisionally two shots from the cut with 36 holes to go, due to the fact that the cut in this tournament will be established after the third day.
Gonzalo will play today on the La Quinta Course starting at 4:30 pm, Spanish time.
