Gonzalo Fernández-Castaño will make his 2017 debut this Thursday in Hawaii. He’ll play in the Sony Open for the first time in his career. What’s more, it will also be his debut at the Waialae CC, one of the most veteran stops on the PGA Tour. Specifically, it’s the third with the most consecutive years as host to an American tour tournament.
Gonzalo is back in action after almost three months. It had been a long time since he had had such a long break without competing, but he really needed it after a very intense year and a winter in 2015 where he wasn’t even able to make the preseason because of such a tight schedule and a back injury.
The best news, at the moment, is that Gonzalo made it to the Sony Open. He’ll have to wait for the tournament ‘entry lists’ to confirm whether he’ll be able to play or not. That’s precisely why the Spanish golfer’s intentions are to put the pressure on and to get good results in the first few tournaments of the year. The idea is to accumulate points, which will allow him to make it to the top of the next re-rankings and thus assure a practically full schedule.
