Gonzalo Fernández-Castaño (-2) did not make the cut in the RSM Classic, PGA Tour tournament held on the Sea Island Resort in Georgia. The Spanish golfer played the second round on the Seaside Course (the two first rounds of the tournament were played on two different courses) and shot a solid 68, with four birdies and a double bogey.
His good performance, especially on the last eleven holes where he had a partial score of four under par, was not enough to make it through the cut. There was too much ground to make up for from the day before when he shot a par on the Plantation. There are lots of birdies out there and they don’t leave much room to breathe. In fact, the cut was set at five under par. Very demanding.
Thus, Gonzalo is off to an early, but much deserved vacation. It was a very long, tough year in which he achieved his grand objective that he had set his mind to: recovering the PGA Tour card. Now it’s time to rest until the Sony Open, in January 2017.
