Gonzalo Fernández Castaño (PAR) did not make the cut at the OHL Classic at Mayakoba, after shooting a 70 in the second round, one under par for the day, and after having had a clearly spit performance.
The Spanish golfer had a partial score of four under par on the first seven holes which opened up a world of possibilities, but a bogey on the 9th slightly changed the trend, although it’s also important to note that the back nine holes at El Camaleón Golf Club are together the most complicated holes on the Mexican course.
Be that as it may, after having left various options for birdie along the way between the 10th and 15th holes, Gonzalo went into the last stretch of the round within the cut of the tournament, but two bogeys on the 16th and 17th put an end to his options, without room for recovery. The Madrid native was not able to get past his particular Mayan curse, on a course where he was never able to get a good score.
Next week Gonzalo will close out the 2016 year of the PGA Tour with his participation in the RSM Classic, held in the Sea Island Resort in Georgia.
