Gonzalo Fernández Castaño (+1) didn’t get off to a good start in the OHL Classic at Mayakoba, after shooting a 72. In the second round, and going in at 88th place, a good response will be necessary to make the cut which could quite possibly end up at -1, if the current playing conditions continue.
The Madrid native had problems off the tee, an issue which, on El Camaleón course (Playa del Carmen, Mexico), could result in difficult situations, keeping in mind the abundant vegetation that surrounds almost each and every one of the fairways on both sides. In any event, The Spanish golfer managed to react in time, finishing with three birdies on the last six holes of the course, although he was unable to get good results on any of the par 5s on the Mexican course.
The leader after the first round is American golfer Chris Kirk (-8, shot a 63 with no bogeys) and Gonzalo will play this Friday in the afternoon session at 12:30 am (6:30 pm Spanish time).
