Rod Pampling (-20) won the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open ten years after his last victory in the PGA Tour. The Australian golfer, who won back his rights to play in the most important tour in the world in the Web.com Final Series, dominated the tournament from start to finish, mostly thanks to the 60 he shot in the first round.
Gonzalo Fernández Castaño (-7) shot a 70, finishing in 48th place at TPC Summerlin in Las Vegas, one under par for the day, insufficient results in the fight to definitively climb to the top of the tournament in the last round. However, the Spanish golfer did play everyday under par, but without having managed to finish with very a low-scoring round, essential factor this week in order to make it to the top.
In the last round he wasn’t quite as sound on the greens as he was on the previous days and, in fact, the longest putt he made to contribute to the four birdies of the day was around two meters. It is important to note an improvement in his game from tee to green over the weekend, but he was missing that final touch on the putter in order to achieve really low-scoring rounds.
Gonzalo will now be on his way to Mexico where he’ll play in the OHL Classic at Mayakoba at El Camaleón Golf Club (Playa del Carmen, México), a must on the Madrid native’s schedule. It will be his fourth tournament of the 2016-17 season in the PGA Tour, to which he’ll arrive with good vibes after having made the cut in the last two tournaments and having accumulated points, after all was said and done, for the FedEX Cup, which is what it’s all about while in search of that full circle week.
