Gonzalo Fernández Castaño (-6) shot a 69 in the third round of the Shriners Hospitals for Children, leaving him in 46th place with one round to go at TPC Summerlin in Las Vegas.
The Spanish golfer noticeably improved his long game, catching more fairways and greens compared to the previous rounds and leaving the ball much closer to the flag on numerous occasions (he made five birdies, the same amount he’d made over a stretch of 36 holes), with a special emphasis on the excellent shot he made off the tee on the 17th hole, par 3, from 210 yards away from the flag, where he left the ball approximately one meter away from the hole.
Although his putter continued to work reasonably well, in line with his steady performance throughout the week, it’s also true that the Madrid native left for the hotel with the clear sensation that he had let some shots slip out from under his fingertips on the course. Most of all on the 13th and 15th holes, where he missed for birdie from less than two meters away.
Gonzalo will play this Sunday at 9:10 am local time (5:10 pm Spanish time) with American Golfer Chad Campbell and Canadian golfer Nick Taylor.
