Gonzalo Fernández Castaño (-4) made the cut with room to spare in the Shriners Hospital for Children Open, after he shot a 68 in the second round. He has secured his presence this weekend at TPC Summerlin in Las Vegas, although there are still a few golfers who have to finish their second round.
The Spanish golfer had some issues from tee to green, he caught less than 60 percent of the fairways and the greens in the first two rounds of the tournament, but on the other hand only made one bogey in 36 holes. And it’s because he was able to come out of three difficult situations on top this Friday making very long putts: off the 10th tee, he saved a putt for par from five meters away on the 11th hole; then, on the 4th and 6h holes he saved the par once again which were very difficult from distances that ranged from five to seven meters...
He also made some excellent putts from medium and long ranges distances for birdie, although strangely enough his only bogey came from a three putt, when he was going for the first birdie from four and a half meters away. Be that as it may, the Madrid native stood out on the greens, precisely the aspect of his game that gave him so many problems last season.
