Gonzalo Fernández-Castaño shot a 69 in the last round of the Sanderson Farms Championship, PGA Tour tournament held on the Country Club of Jackson course in Mississippi. An excellent response from the Spanish golfer in the last round to secure a spot in the top thirty in the tournament and to get the season counter in motion.
Gonzalo got the good vibes back with the putter. It was a fantastic week on the greens, to the point in which the golfer from Puerto Hierro was the fifth best in the tournament in putts on regulation greens. He was once again very accurate on the putts from between two and six meters out. He made five birdies and just two bogeys, one of which was on a par 5 after sending the ball to the water straight off the tee. He finished with an accumulated total of -7, while Cody Gribble went home with the win.
The week didn’t quite come around full circle, but it was a good start to a sequence of four tournaments where Gonzalo was confident in that he would take a big step forward in maintaining the PGA Tour card for next year. Next Thursday he’ll play in Las Vegas in the Shriners Hospital for Children Open.
