Gonzalo Fernández Castaño will make his debut in the new PGA Tour season this Thursday. The Madrid native will play in the Safeway Open on the Silverado Resort & Spa course in Napa, the Wine Country in California. It’s the opening tournament of the 2016/17 American tour.
As we’ve said, this tournament will be Gonzalo’s return to the PGA Tour after a year in the Web.com Tour. He’s back in his natural habitat, at 'home', the place where he’s meant to be with his game and his category. Eleven months have gone by, equivalent to 335 days since the last tournament of the PGA Tour: the OHL Classic at Mayakoba 2015.
Gonzalo will attempt to take advantage of the positive inertia in these first few tournaments of the year brought by the Web.com. Keep in mind that the Spanish golfer won back the PGA Tour card after an outstanding performance in the Final Series of the Web.com Tour. He finished in twelfth place and was granted card 25, results that will allow him to have a complete schedule in more than twenty tournaments no matter what happens.
Fernández-Castaño will play in the very early morning, at 7:30 am local time, in the second game of the day teeing off on the 10th hole, with Ken Duke and Derek Fathauer. There’s a nine hour time difference between California and Spain.
