Gonzalo Fernández-Castaño shot a 73 in the last and final round of the Nationwide Children’s Hospital Championship, a deceiving score compared to the game the Madrid native pulled off in the last round of the third playoff of the Web.com Tour Final Series.
Gonzalo was very solid from tee to green. It was probably the best of the four days in that aspect of the game, however, it was followed by an erratic finale tainted by a triple bogey on the 15th hole, which made him lose a lot of ground on the scoreboard, finishing in 24th place.
The score is a shame because Gonzalo deserved much more, but at least it’s not one of those rounds that ends up doing damage. The Spanish golfer, with the PGA Tour card in hand, is conscious of the fact that his game is in a good state and he’s prepared to fight for the win in the Web.com Tour Championship gran finale of the Final Series, held next week.
After that tournament, Gonzalo will know the final distribution of the PGA Tour cards for next year, and thus, he’ll know how many tournaments he’ll have access to in the beginning. He is currently in twelfth place in the Order of Merit.
