Gonzalo Fernández-Castaño shot a 66 in the first round of the Nationwide Children’s Hospital Championship, third playoff of the Web.com Tour Final Series that started this Thursday on the Ohio State University course.
Explosive start for the Spanish golfer with six birdies and just one bogey. He’s currently in second place in the tournament, just one shot from the leader, Korean golfer Whee Kim. Once he secured the PGA Tour card for next year, Gonzalo began his quest to move up as high as possible on the winnings list in order to have a more quality card for next season and thus to have a higher probability of playing in more tournaments. For example, with his provisional second place as of right now, Gonzalo would move up to fourth place in the Order of Merit of the Final Series, a commendable situation that would allow him to begin next season in the PGA Tour with more assurance.
In any case, the tournament is well on its way, headed full speed ahead toward the finish line. There are still 54 holes left to play. Gonzalo will play this Friday at 1:51 pm, Spanish time.
