Gonzalo Fernández-Castaño knew how to get the most out of the Sunday session in the DAP Championship. The Spanish golfer pulled off a sensational finale, with four birdies on the last eleven holes, and was able to recover none other than 28 spots in the rankings.
He finished in 16th place in the tournament, and what’s even more important, he is now 12th on the list of the 25 who will earn the rights to the card when the four tournaments of the Final Series end. A great start.
Gonzalo turned in the fourth best card of the day, with a solid game from tee to green and effective on the putt. He started off with five consecutive pars and then made a bogey. His main strong point today was his attitude, the mental strength that he’s working on which is now starting to pay off. He responded to the bogey on the 6th hole with birdies on both the 8th and 9th holes and finished with two other birdies on the 15th and 17th holes. A magnificent round which put him on the path to recovering the PGA Tour card. In any case, this is just the beginning and there’s a long road ahead.
Gonzalo’s next stop is the Albertsons Boise Open presented by Kraft Nabisco, which will be held on September 15th to 18th at the Hillcrest CC, Idaho.
