Gonzalo Fernández-Castaño (-3) got off to a solid start in the DAP Championship, first tournament of the Web.com Tour Final Series. The Spanish golfer shot a 67 at the Canterbury Golf Club in Ohio and is now provisionally in eighth place. Provisional because the round was not able to be completed due to bad weather. Practically the entire afternoon session has yet to finish the round.
Gonzalo made four birdies and just one bogey. Another solid round of golf, just as he’s been doing these past months. The last few tweaks he made to the drive with his coach Randy Smith worked out well, seeing as how he caught eight fairways and 14 greens, although the best facet of his game was around the green, having pulled off a splendid five out of six recoveries.
The leading position currently lies in the hands of Bobby Wyatt (-7), four shots away from Gonzalo, although a more thorough assessment is yet to be made until after the round is completed. Today the second round will commence as soon as the first round is completed. It will be cutting it close for Fernández-Castaño to finish the round today as he’ll be playing in the second session of the day.
