Gonzalo Fernández-Castaño needed to respond well in Oregon and he did just that. The Madrid native improved his game considerably in the third round of the Winco Foods Portland Open, who shot a 68 and is now at six under par, six shots from the top two spots, the objective of the week in order to finish in the top 25 of the Web.com Tour and to reach his target.
It’s no easy matter, far from it. The problem isn’t so much the six shots he needs to complete his objective as it is the large quantity of golfers in the race. He needs an extraordinary performance in the last round and that the top players are not completely solid in their games.
In any case, Gonzalo has already done the hardest part. He’s made it with many possibilities to the last round of the regular Web.com Tour season. And that says a lot. Additionally, even if he doesn’t end up among the top 25 best golfers, the idea is to walk away with good vibes that will allow him to go into the Final Series in the best state possible.
Gonzalo honed in on his skills in the third round. His long game worked much better, first step in visualizing an astonishing round this Sunday. He caught eleven fairways and fifteen greens. Today he’ll play in the last round at 9:15 pm with Casey Wittenberg.
