Gonzalo Fernández-Castaño made the cut in the WinCo Foods Portland Open, last regular tournament of the Web.com Tour. The Madrid native shot a 72 in the second round and is now at a total of three under par, at the brink of the top 50 of the tournament. He lost a lot of ground, but he is still afloat and has 36 holes left to play to make his way to the top.
Gonzalo is not altogether comfortable with his long game at the Pumpkin Ridge GC in Oregon. Yesterday he caught eight fairways and twelve greens and today he practically maintained the same rhythm, expect for one extra green in his favor. However, it wasn't a great round either, with three birdies and a double bogey.
It's important to note that Gonzalo can only finish with a first or second place with no tie to guarantee his spot in the top 25 of the Web.com Tour and thus earn back his rights to the PGA Tour. Gonzalo is currently at eight and seven shots away, respectively. It's definitely a difficult goal to achieve, but not impossible if he manages to finish with two low-scoring rounds.
