Gonzalo Fernández-Castaño (-4) got off to a good start in the News Sentinel Open, Web.com Tour tournament held this week on the Fox Den CC course in Knoxville, Tennessee.
The Madrid native made five birdies and a bogey, adding continuity to his high level of play. It just goes to show, in his last fifteen rounds of competition he’s shot under seventy on twelve different occasions. Big moves.
Gonzalo didn’t even catch fifty percent of the fairways today, but he was very on point with the irons to green and the putter worked out well. At the moment, with the 67 he shot, he is provisionally in sixteenth place. However, we reiterate, it’s a provisional ranking as the round could not be finished due to lack of light after having been suspended because of an electric storm. There is half the course to finish, to be exact. Of those who have already turned in their card, Gonzalo is twelfth. The provisional leader is Marc Turnesa with a 63 (-8).
Thus, the Spanish golfer’s tee time will also be delayed in the second round. It remains to be seen if he will be able to finish it out.
