Gonzalo Fernández-Castaño made another cut in the Ellie Mae Classic at TPC Stonebrae, Web.com Tour tournament held in Hayward, California. The Spanish golfer shot a 69 on Friday, the second consecutive round below par, and is at a total of -6, among the top 25 of the tournament, just two shots away from the top ten.
Gonzalo made two birdies, an eagle and three bogeys, a good round, although we already know that in the Web.com Tour it's necessary to get a better percentage on the greens, specifically to make more birdies, in order to climb to the top. The leader in California is Stephen Jaeger with a stratospheric -17.
Despite playing below par, Gonzalo has gone down a few positions after the second round, although he's got a lot of room to work with to recover and to continue to climb upwards. Anything as far as the top ten would be an important step forward in his objective to reach the top 25 in the rankings and to earn back the PGA Tour card.
Gonzalo will play in the third round today at 8:10 pm, Spanish time, with Joel Dahmen.
