Gonzalo Fernández-Castaño fought a valiant fight in the second round of the Lincoln Land Charity Championship. The Spanish golfer came out to play, ready for the tides to turn in order make his eighth consecutive cut. He needed to shoot low, the round of par the first day left him in a complicated situation.
Gonzalo got off to a really good start, with four consecutive birdies between holes 4 and 7. That incredible sequence would have allowed him to make the cut with room to spare in the Web.com Tour tournament. Not having played too well from tee to green, the Spanish golfer set it up to shoot pars and tried to hold out to get the scores that would open the doors for him during the weekend.
However, it cost him in the end. Gonzalo ended up with two bogeys on the 17th and 18th holes and was not able to continue on throughout the weekend. It was the end of an amazing run of having made seven cuts in a row in the tournaments. In any case, it's another round below par, which shows that the high level of play is still there, although the Web.com Tour proves each and every week that it's important to be accurate on the putt in order to get birdies, almost mandatory in this tour.
Gonzalo’s next tournament will be the Ellie Mae Classic at TPC Stonebrae in Hayward, California, in two weeks.
