Gonzalo Fernández-Castaño (-2) shot a 70 in the first round of the LECOM Health Challenge, Web.com Tour tournament held on the Upper Course at the Peek’n Peak Resort, in New York.
Things didn't get off to a great start for Gonzalo. The Madrid native was set back early by a bogey on the 3rd and it was difficult to come back from. His long game is still solid, controlled, calculated and refined. He catches a lot of fairways and greens, but he wasn't quite able to deliver until he open fired on the 14th hole. That's where he made his first birdie and then two more before finishing.
An incredible finale that positioned him in 33rd place, three shots from the top ten and six from leader, Rhein Gibson, a golfer who curiously enough finished off last Sunday at PGA Tour tournament, the Barracuda Championship, with an albatross.
Gonzalo will play in the second round at 1:33 pm, Spanish time.
