Gonzalo Fernández-Castaño played some outstanding golf in the first round of the Air Capital Classic, Web.com Tour tournament which began yesterday, Thursday, on the Crestview course in Wichita, Kansas, but in which the first round was not able to be completed until today.
The game was suspended due to an electric storm that prevented the golfers from finishing yesterday, although Gonzalo did make it in time to shoot a spectacular 64 to get in among the top positions. Today, after all the cards were turned in, Gonzalo stands in sixth place, two shots away from the leader, Mexican golfer Roberto Díaz.
Gonzalo unleashed an extraordinary game from tee to green. He caught eleven fairways and fifteen greens, he made seven birdies and just one bogey, after which he made an excellent comeback with three consecutive birdies. A great start and even better vibes for the 54 holes to come. There’s a very interesting statistic which speaks to Gonzalo’s consistency in these past weeks: of his last 21 rounds, only three were over par.
The second round will begin this afternoon. Gonzalo will play at 8:50 pm, Spanish time. If all goes as planned, and there are no holdups, there should be time to complete the second round.
