Gonzalo Fernández Castaño (-10) is currently second place in the Rust Oleum Championship after shooting a 67, the second of the week, at the Ivanhoe Club (Ivanhoe, Illinois). The Spanish golfer, just as he did on Thursday, accumulated a total of eight birdies and ended up just one shot away from the leader, American golfer Josh Teater (-11), with whom he’ll play in an amazing round on Saturday, at 12:50 pm (7:50 pm Spanish time).
The evolution of his game is apparent, after having finished five rounds in a row under 70 shots, the last three rounds of last week in Punta Cana and the first two in Chicago, which will give him the opportunity to fight for his first victory in the Web.com.
The Madrid native explained the key to his notable improvement after finishing the round: “Last week, after shooting a 74 in the first round of Punta Cana, I went with my caddie to the putting green and there, in ten minutes, I figured something out that helped me a lot afterward. I’m confident now on the greens, which is what I needed, because my game from tee to green was going pretty well. If I can maintain this level of play, it’s going to be a very fun weekend”.
Gonzalo, who started the second round on the 10th hole with a bogey, came back right away with four birdies in a row to definitively get his game back on track. After three putts on the 8th hole, close to the finish line, he wasn’t able to take over the leading position, but he did finish off the round with a birdie on the 9th.
