American golfer Austin Cook (-7) is in the lead at the Rust Oleum Championship after the first round. Gonzalo Fernández Castaño is two shots away (-5), star of an incredible round at the Ivanhoe Club (Ivanhoe, Illinois), with a total of eight birdies on his card, one of which began on the first hole, the most difficult one of the whole course in the first round.
In fact, the Spanish golfer began the round with three consecutive birdies, able to react thereafter with more birdies coming off of errors (bogey on the 5th and double bogey on the 13th).
It's important to note that, in a way, Fernández Castaño has given his game continuity after the last 54 holes of last week in Punta Cana, where he finished with three rounds below 70 shots (a 64 included), coming back from a very negative start of the tournament.
Today, Friday, he'll play in the morning at 7:30 am (2:30 pm Spanish time). Of the thirteen players who currently make up the top ten of the tournament, seven of them played on Thursday in the afternoon (Gonzalo included) and six made it from the morning session, so there is no apparent difference, as long as the playing conditions are the same.
