Gonzalo Fernández-Castaño made the cut at the Corales Punta Cana Resort Championship after a flawless second round. The Madrid native shot a 64 and is now at -6, just enough to continue in the tournament. It was a fantastic comeback, having moved up 80 spots in the rankings.
Friday was not completed due to lack of light after a long suspension because of the bad weather, but he was already in attack mode, playing some good solid golf. He did not make one bogey and landed five birdies, three of them consecutive just before the suspension siren blast went off.
Far from getting cold and despite having spent the night somewhere between the end of the round yesterday and resuming play today, Gonzalo began with three birdies and the series of five that he needed and made it to six under par, allowing him to continue in the tournament. A solid extra life of which he’ll attempt to take full advantage. The third round will begin today.
