Gonzalo Fernández Castaño is home again. The Madrid native is back in Spain and in the European Tour. Gonzalo will play this Thursday in the Open de España in Valderrama in one of the most anticipated games of the morning, together with Marc Warren and Ross Fisher at 9:45 am on the 10th tee.
Gonzalo hasn't played in the European Tour since the BMW Masters in 2014, a year and five months ago. He's happy to see so many people that he's lost track of and he's confident he’ll play the role well. It definitely won't be for lack of hard work as he was the last to leave the driving range on Wednesday with his coach, José Carlos Gutiérrez.
Gonzalo will play on one of his favorite courses, where he's a member and where he's practiced and played for hours on end before moving to the US. Thus, he's in his comfort zone, however that doesn't mean it's going to be a walk in the park, by any means. Valderrama was built to be a demanding course and the prognostics are that the winner will end up somewhere around 5 under par. The solution, however, will be in the makings come this Thursday.
Apart from Gonzalo, the top of the top of Spanish golf will be there at Valderrama, among which are Sergio García and Rafa Cabrera Bello, to name a few.
