Gonzalo Fernández Castaño (PAR) didn’t make the cut at the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open held at the TPC Summerlin in Las Vegas. A second round for a 74 on a course where there were more than enough cards below par to blame.
A serious mishap on a day in which the Spanish golfer was only able to make one birdie. His game from tee to green wasn’t especially on point in either of the two days of competition, which means the big difference was on the greens. If on Thursday Fernández Castaño beat out half the golfers with his putter, on Friday he was hoping to make the results and, with the same statistics, he almost lost by half, two and a half shots…
So much inconsistency is a big price to pay in a tournament on such a demanding course, the only option the Spanish golfer has now is to focus on the next date, the McGladery Classic, held at Sea Island next week.
In Las Vegas, the leaders are rookie, Andrew Putnam (-10), younger brother Michael Putnam, also playing in this tour which on this occasion did not make the cut, and Scottish golfer, Russell Knox (-10), who coincidentally enough stood in for compatriot, Martin Laird.
